SOMETHING EDITORS’ NOTES

This legacy edition of the classic Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite album was released around the 40th anniversary of the one-hour broadcast from the Honolulu International Center Arena, which was viewed by more than 1.5 billion people in more than 40 countries. This edition includes the original album, the full dress rehearsal (once released as The Alternate Aloha) with a sharp new remix, and five bonus tracks from a private 3 a.m. recording session that happened after the show was over. Presley delivers a sublime cover of Gordon Lightfoot's "Early Morning Rain" that illustrates why he'll always be The King. Exhaustion wasn't an option, and these performances establish that Elvis didn't wilt under pressure but rose to the occasion with his A-game. While his big hits are here—"Burning Love," "Suspicious Minds," "Blue Suede Shoes," and "Love Me" rattle the walls—there are also covers of James Taylor's "Steamroller Blues" and versions of Frank Sinatra's "My Way" and Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," proving that no legend's catalog was safe from being claimed by Elvis himself.
